five photo friday: New Moon edition

Went to the midnight showing of New Moon last night with Sara, Harrison, Matt, and Craig. We wore shimmer lotion and one of us shaved a moon into his chest hair. Amazing. We also sat next to some teenage twihards and played campfire games with them until the movie started. They were dressed as Rosalie and Alice, and that’s forever how I’ll refer to them.

Here are fourscenes I wish I saw last night, and one bonus piece of snark:

new friend Sam

I have a new friend. He’s pretty awesome.

His name is Sam (short for Samuel Rene) but Sean and I call him Crash. He’s Sean’s nephew and the son of his sister Erin and brother-in-law Rene. Sam is delicious and we’re going to be spending a lot more time with him since the whole family is moving to Buffalo THIS SUNDAY.

I asked my mom if she wanted to come help them unload/unpack as Sean’s sister has some limited mobility issues right now.

“Sure,” she replied. And then, “Wait! Where is that baby going to be?”

“He’ll be there, don’t worry, ” I told her. “You can hold him.” She took out her Blackberry and “penciled” it in, at which point I thought WHAT AM I DOING. Bringing my mom around a newborn could either be a genius move or a complete disaster.

I don’t know, you tell me. After seeing him is she going to want one of her own (i.e. a grandchild) more or less?

one year ago

One year ago I was in Cleveland, Ohio with Sean and our friend Charlie. The three of us canvassed the night before and spent all of Election Day, from 5AM-9PM as poll watchers outside Cleveland polling places. As you probably remember, allegations of voter fraud were rampant in Ohio in 2004, particularly in Cuyahoga County. I’m happy to say that besides Sean getting called a “commie New York lawyer,” we had no problems.

All in all, it was a great day. My polling place went 100% for Obama–seriously. We dropped into a Cuyahoga County Dems party and stuck around for the announcement of the win. After that we headed back to our hotel, watched the somber and emotional speech, and then hit the sack. We were exhausted and happy.

A couple portraits over at melvin.
