I. Sara and Sean on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I had a friend from the farm (Nat Tagge!) and her boyfriend visit us for a night, and neither had ever been to Canada. We parked on the U.S. side and walked across the Rainbow Bridge, one of my favorite ways to see the Falls. We decided to take them up Clifton Hill too, just because it’s a spectacle and surreal. One of the few instances where the U.S. did a better job at something than Canada. II. My potted hens and chicks in the backyard. I hope they explode a bit more next summer. III. Two guys in line for clay-oven baked pizza at the Fancy and Delicious pizza fundraiser. IV. Terrible, awful wax figures of Elvis, Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart, and Miley Cyrus in Niagara Falls. V. Super-woman Maura at the F&D pizza party, looking lovely while living the chaos.

In light of the Flaming Lips show I saw last night in Artpark and the one I’m going to see tonight in Canandaigua, today’s FPF is brought to you by the words “joy,” “play,” and “happiness.”

I. Josh on one of our last night’s in San Francisco last July. We were delirious with exhaustion and nerding out with our cameras. II. Madi in the pool at our vacation house in the Outer Banks, last August. III. Miss Lauren, frolicking in the grass in Portland, OR. IV. Josh on the same night, just when we got back to the hotel. My favorite part of this photo? His left foot. V. An ancient but awesome photo, circa 2005. Me and Tessa rocking out in my mom’s family room. She and her brother Michael spent the night on their way to Ohio.

I. Sean, Kevin, and my dad in the Niagara Glen on my birthday hike, June 12. The Glen is along the Niagara River gorge in Ontario and is generally an incredible place. II. The Friday afternoon scene at Veritas, a wine bar my friend Melissa’s fiance owns. We had several nice glasses of wine there when I visited DC at the end of June for #ala10. III. The GIANT SLUG that tried to take over our house and bread one afternoon. Huge! IV. Brynn convinced me to order room service on our last morning in DC and I’m glad she did. It was such a nice treat. My mango oatmeal is in the foreground. V. A black and white from the field of tall grass behind Sean’s family cottage in Canandaigua, NY.

I. A fall morning on the lake during our 4th Annual Team Retreat. Rebecca, Teresa, and Eric soaked up the sun and read the paper for a couple hours. It was really gorgeous that weekend. II. Another shot from that weekend, this time of Rebecca’s Pioneer Woman pasta salad. Delicious. III. Boats in the harbor, Canandaigua NY. IV. Bananagrams FTW. I love word games. V. I am loving my new flower boxes. These ones my mother designed.

The Sweetness/Cuteness edition. (I) The beautiful and empty Sweet_ness 7 Cafe before David’s second annual “Coffee & Cake” fundraiser on April 30. Once again, owner Prish Moran outdid herself. This might be my favorite place to photograph. (II) My mom and one of the Cooney 2010 campaign mascots at Sean’s announcement. (III) The dessert table with the cafe’s bar in the background. We had chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered popcorn, cheesecake, brownies, cookies. It was delicious. I felt hungover on sugar the next morning. (IV) Sean at his announcement. I’m so proud. (V) Cream puffs! Cream puffs! Cream puffs!

Some oldies, some newsies. (I) Oliver blissed out at Zoe’s birthday party a couple weeks back. How adorable is he? (II) Jesse and Katie at the same party performing their “talent,” which is doing push ups. I was impressed. (III) I couldn’t help but post another one of Oliver. He’s listening to his moms sing to each here. Or, more accurately, lip sync. (IV) A photo of a chandelier in San Francisco’s Chinatown from last summer’s California trip. (V) Another photo from California, this one at the glorious Redwood hostel.

I. Some hunk pulling in the boat on Canandaigua Lake. Taken a couple summers ago. II. Crash knows what he wants, and it’s Madi’s hair. III. Last season’s PUSH basketball team, with Eric Walker keeping watch. IV. The morality police officer Bill Stachowski at a Marriage Equality rally in December. V. Amazing sky near Estes Park in Colorado.

Oops, I didn’t make five photo friday this week. I have plenty of new photos to share though so here are five from my trip to Toronto last weekend. Josh and I went to see Joanna Newsom at the Phoenix Theater (a birthday gift from me to him).
I. Twinkle lights at the mall. We stopped in to take a break from the unrelenting rain. II. Josh putting his new record back into its sleeve on Sunday morning at a coffee shop on Bloor & Albany Streets. III. Movie making in Chinatown. IV. Downtown, wet and slick around 3:00pm on Saturday. V. Bailey’s & Coffee at the bar of some touristy place near our hotel. Josh is now 19 and he had the same.

I. Josh preparing to take photos in Marin County, just North of San Francisco. We were driving through these lovely, winding roads on our way to the Point Reyes hostel. It was ridiculous. Fog rolled in over the hills, the light was just right (the golden hour). I look at these photos and sigh. II. Dripping icicle outside my house on a god-sent sunny day. III. Josh and the giants. In the Redwoods, off the Avenue of the Giants. We walked through these trees the same day we drove through the scene in the first photo. What an amazing 12 hours. IV. I went snowshoeing a couple weekends back with some friends. Here Shannon and Sara frolick on a frozen creek. V. Winter branches at Tifft Nature Preserve, gorgeous and frozen.

I’m feeling festive. Last weekend Sean and I got our tree, I went Christmas shopping with my mom last night, and today we decorated our office with obnoxious stuff. My hot pink tree lives to see another season. So, photos from Holidays past:

I. My cousin Tiffany and I at Christmas Even festivities at my Aunt Judy’s. II. My cousin Nate demonstrating all he wants for Christmas (his two front teeth). III. So obscene I had to take a photo. IV. A couple of gifts a couple of years back. I love that song, so epic. V. A polaroid that still hangs in my friend Mark’s basement. We’ve got an unofficial tradition of going to Mark’s house on Christmas night after his parent’s party winds down. We hang in the basement and play darts usually, regressing back to high school days. I missed it last year, hope I won’t this year.
five photo friday: New Moon edition
Went to the midnight showing of New Moon last night with Sara, Harrison, Matt, and Craig. We wore shimmer lotion and one of us shaved a moon into his chest hair. Amazing. We also sat next to some teenage twihards and played campfire games with them until the movie started. They were dressed as Rosalie and Alice, and that’s forever how I’ll refer to them.
Here are fourscenes I wish I saw last night, and one bonus piece of snark:

Another Five Photo Friday dedicated to summer. I should have some more recent photos up soon, hopefully of Sean’s new nephew. We call him “Crash.” I. Isn’t that kitchen amazing? It’s at the wonderful Redwoods hostel in Kalmath, CA. I’ve seen some nice hostel kitchens before but never one so great I want to steal it for my own. Bonuses: the windows look out at the Pacific ocean and the fridge has a whole shelf of free “community” food. II. Kevin and Harrison were gracious models while I took a gazillion photos of the sunset over Lake Erie in June. We all discovered Bennett Beach this summer and it changed our lives. III. Doesn’t Josh look like he’s walking down a tunnel towards heaven? Yeah, I think so too. IV. An oldie, but a goodie. A West Side sunset seen through my kitchen window. One of my favorites views to photograph. V. The spread at our picnic table at Cape Lookout State Park in Oregon. Josh slept late that morning while I amused myself with the ocean, some ripes cherries, and a good book.

This is a very people-powered Five Photo Friday, I like it. I. The beautiful, birthday girl Sara Gordon on Columbus Day weekend at the cottage in Canandaigua. The lake was insane that day. II. Madi & me in the car on our Outer Banks vacation this August. We were passing the time by making silly faces; this is the angry face. Check out Sean in the background, cracks me up. III. Josh taking in a ridiculously beautiful scene. This place was called “Hidden Beach” and we found it off a trail in the Redwoods National Forest. IV. Way back in June my dad gave Josh his old guitar for Josh’s high school graduation. They both cried. Here’s my dad playing a little bit while Terrie watches. V. Kevin at the board game table in Canandaigua, also taken over Columbus Day weekend.
five photo friday: rollip edition
I learned about rollip on Shutter Sisters and went to town tonight. Like SS says, it’s not for the polaroid purist but it sure is fun.
Some of these might look familiar. I. The little cabin I loved at Jen’s Uncle’s place. II. Me and Natalie in New Orleans, being silly. III. Stoic pelican taken on a kayak trip during our vacation in Florida last summer. IV. A nice day last fall with some friends on the lake. V. Hawthorne Valley Farm calf, licking its own nose.

In honor of PUSH Buffalo’s third annual “Buffalo Takes Manhattan” party this weekend, I thought I’d share some photos that will be on display and up for auction at the event. They’re all of PUSH-owned properties, some of which have been rehabbed and some of which are awaiting renovation.
